Rock Creek Station State Historical Park is 4.5 mi. e. on CR Pawnee/Wymore/Fairbury (PWF) Rd., then 1.7 mi. s.e. to 57426 710 Rd. Rock Creek Station was a stage and Pony Express stop that served the Oregon Trail. It was here that “Wild Bill” Hickok began his gunfighting career when he shot the station owner and two others. Swales worn deep by covered wagons on their westward trek still are visible.
A visitor center offers a slide presentation, interpretive displays and artifacts about this period.
