Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History is at 1330 N. Burlington Ave. Natural habitat dioramas show wildlife from hummingbirds to polar bears, and artifacts trace Nebraska's early inhabitants from prehistoric man to pioneer settlers.
An interactive exhibit devoted to Kool-Aid tells about its creation in Hastings in 1927. The Lock, Stock & Barrel exhibit displays more than 500 firearms and tells the story of the importance of weapons to the people of the Plains. The Nature Nook focuses on the natural, agricultural and urban environments of Nebraska. Walk- and crawl-through displays focus on the underground fauna and flora of the state. Also on the site are a planetarium and the Lied Super Screen Theatre, featuring nature, science and history 3-D films on a giant screen.
