AAA Editor Notes

The Frank House is on the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus at 2010 University Dr. Built in 1889 by wealthy businessman George Washington Frank, the red Colorado sandstone mansion served as living quarters for the nursing staff of Nebraska State Hospital for the Tuberculous from 1911-1972. Although the restoration of the home is ongoing, visitors can view the work in progress in certain areas. A Sèvres urn and an 1876 Steinway square grand piano are on display, and the Tiffany stained-glass window and hand-carved oak details alone make this grand old house worth a visit. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
Hours: Mon.-Fri. 2-5, Sat. noon-5. Closed major holidays and during university breaks.
