Madison County Museum is at 210 W. 3rd St. The museum features an 1880 fire department pumper; a display about baseball hall of famer and Madison County native Richie Ashburn; miniature Christmas layouts; exhibits about county history; and an archives with information about the Orphan Train Riders, orphaned and homeless children mainly from New York and Boston who were sent by train to new homes throughout the country 1854-1929. A hands-on exhibit depicts communication from the days of the Pony Express to modern-day fiber optics. Also featured are more than 40 HO, N and G scale modular railroads and Lewis and Clark displays, including a tepee and a hands-on area for children. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 45 minutes minimum.
