Arbor Day Farm is at 2611 Arbor Ave. This 260-acre national historic landmark, part of the original estate of J. Sterling Morton, is owned and operated by the Arbor Day Foundation. The farm includes the famed apple orchards and the Apple House Market, where visitors can enjoy the fall harvest, cider pressing demonstrations and apple pie and wine tasting.

At the Tree Adventure, the Woodland Pavilion features interactive educational exhibits and a 20-minute film, “Trees in the Movies.” Other Tree Adventure attractions include the Tree House Trail, featuring two tree houses, one featuring a 50-foot canopy tower and an observation platform; a 20-foot-long spider web rope; and growing facilities nurturing thousands of seedlings.

The Discovery Ride, departing from Discovery Ride Depot, is a 3-mile ride through orchards and vineyards and offers a close-up look at the forest. Two Nature Explore classrooms present activities that allow children to creatively learn about nature.

Also on the grounds are restored early 20th-century barns, a golf course, nature and birding trails, a lodge and a conference center. The area fosters a diverse array of plant and animal life, including more than 144 species of birds; white-tailed deer, red foxes and woodchucks; and white mulberry, green ash and several varieties of oak. Guided tours can be arranged at the Tree Adventure Tour department.

Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
