National Willa Cather Center, 413 N. Webster St., is an arts and cultural center that preserves the legacy of the state's best-known writer. Guided tours through the interiors of several restored properties—Farmers and Merchants Bank (now a museum), Cather's Childhood Home, Harling House, Burlington Depot, St. Juliana Catholic Church and Grace Episcopal Church—begin at the restored 1885 Red Cloud Opera House. Cather's childhood home, described in several of her writings, is restored to period.
