Ward Charcoal Ovens State Historic Park is 7 mi. s.e. on US 6/50/93, then 11 mi. s. on Cave Valley Rd. The six 30-foot-high stone “beehive” kilns, constructed during the 1870s mining boom, burned wood to produce charcoal for use in area smelters. The park affords outstanding views of the Steptoe Valley.
