AAA Editor Notes
Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa is at 11011 W. Charleston Blvd. (just w. of Town Center Dr.). For decades most of Vegas' off-Strip casinos catering to locals were generic gambling dens with an attached $7.99 buffet and perhaps a movie theater—until this billion-dollar resort near Red Rock Canyon broke the boring mold with its surprisingly swank casino and chic bars and lounges.

Taking some design cues from the dramatically scenic natural area, the casino's look is best described as “desert modern”: plenty of chocolate-brown wood paneling, sandstone columns, onyx decorative accents, colorful glass and crystal globe chandeliers. A massive, 32-foot-long Swarovski crystal chandelier dangling over the stylish lobby bar is a sparkly stunner.

Red Rock's bingo hall is huge, the bowling alley sports 72 lanes and the attached multiplex features an IMAX screen. An intimate live music venue, Rocks Lounge books quality bands. Even the food court earns high marks for including a branch of the legendary Capriotti's Sandwich Shop. Order “The Bobbie” sub (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo); you won't be sorry.

While some complain it's too far from the Strip (about a 30-minute drive), residents, tourists and visiting celebs (of the TMZ variety) all assert that Red Rock's glam quotient is worthy of a Las Vegas Boulevard address. You'll likely be hard-pressed to disagree.

Food is available.
