AAA Editor Notes
Stratosphere Tower is at 2000 Las Vegas Blvd. S. At 1,149 feet, the Stratosphere hotel literally towers over its neighbors, offering a spectacular panorama of the city from both indoor and outdoor observation decks. From the outdoor deck on level 109, on the tower's east side, there's an up-close view of Insanity—The Ride in action. The indoor deck, wrapped in floor-to-ceiling windows, has comfy couches where you can kick back and take in the view. And what a view it is: The massive Strip resorts look positively Lilliputian from this elevated perspective, with distant Red Rock Canyon and the Spring Mountains visible to the west.
Those with stomachs of steel can try out the tower-top thrill rides. The SkyJump lets daredevils experience a bungee-like plummet of more than 850 feet. Insanity—The Ride is a mechanical clawlike contraption that swings out beyond the tower's edge and spins riders around in circles 900 feet above the Strip. Big Shot is a free fall-type ride that shoots you up to the very tippy-top of the Strat's tower mast. X-Scream, a short-track, teeter-totter type roller coaster, takes riders 27 feet out from the tower for yet another gut-clutching scare.
Note: The ticket center is located on the casino level, across from Roxy's Diner. Visitors must pass through an airport-style security checkpoint before boarding the elevators for the ride up. Age and height restrictions apply to rides.
