AAA Editor Notes
The Cromwell is at 3595 Las Vegas Blvd. S. at jct. Flamingo Rd. In 2014, a complete overhaul of the circa 1979 Barbary Coast casino (later renamed Bill's Gamblin' Hall) discarded one of the Strip's last remaining low-roller dives in favor of the high-priced, hipster-fabulous Cromwell. In a plum, mid-Strip location, shiny floors, dark woods, gold accents and the Barbary Coast's original, refurbished red-and-gold chandeliers set the scene. Flanking the small, narrow casino's center walkway are crisp new gaming tables ($5-$25), flashy video slots and the swanky cocktail bar, Interlude.
Upstairs you'll find the rooftop Drai's Beach Club pool/nightclub as well as TV chef Giada De Laurentiis' first-ever restaurant. It's all a far cry from the dear departed Barbary, with its Victorian stained-glass panels, stained-black carpets, lukewarm beer and perma-cloud of cigarette smoke. RIP, old friend.
