Celebrity chef Mario Batali is the owner and creator of this impressive restaurant. Pizza connoisseurs will delight in the gourmet topping options which include guanciale, egg, wild mushrooms, clams and house sausage. They also offer a large variety of cured meats and fried antipasti from regional farmers markets including butternut squash, eggplant and cauliflower. Entrées range from grilled Pacific tuna with celery root puree and crispy duck to homemade pasta with freshly prepared sauces. No dinner would be complete without sampling one of gelatos made from scratch daily. One of our favorites is the peanut butter and jelly copette (gelato). The chef roasts and spins his own peanut butter which is used in the gelato and tops it with a scoop of grape gelato (deep purple organic grapes) and a mini peanut butter cookie all in an attractive martini glass. The s'mores copette is another favorite with toasted meringue and a warm chocolate cupcake on top of graham cracker gelato. The restaurant is located within the replicated section of St. Marks Square in Venice, Italy, with most seating in a gated area which creates a feeling of dining al fresco within the city walls. Guests enjoy the hourly street performers and an amazing painted ceiling that changes from day to night as you dine. Skilled waitstaff is personable and adaptable to guest requests. Our server showed great wine and food preparation knowledge. Though the beginning of the dining experience was strong, service began to taper off.
