Grand Falls and Gorge is best viewed from the Malabeam information center at the Ron Turcotte Bridge, which extends from Broadway Boulevard, crossing the Saint John River Gorge. A 23-metre-high (76-ft.) cataract gives Grand Falls its name. On either side of the river, the Malabeam and La Rochelle information centers relate the legend of a young native girl who saved her village by luring a Mohawk tribe over the falls into the gorge. At the La Rochelle center a 250-step stairway leads to Wells-in-Rocks, a series of deep potholes. A zipline and a pontoon boat ride also are offered (weather and water conditions permitting). Guided tours are available by appointment; information may be obtained at both information centers. Guided tours are available. Pets on leash are allowed. Camping is permitted.
Wells-in-Rocks $5; $2 (ages 5-12). Guided tour of gorge and falls $8; $3 (ages 5-12). Guided tour of falls only $5; $2 (ages 5-12).
Hours: Malabeam center daily 9-9, July-Aug.; 10-6, in June and Sept. 1 to mid-Oct. La Rochelle center daily 10-6, July-Aug. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
