AAA Editor Notes

Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway, off I-93 exit 34B, extends from Valley Station to the top of Cannon Mountain. During the summer, when this popular ski mountain isn't buried in snow and swarming with skiers and snowboarders, you can hop aboard an 80-passenger aerial tram car that will whisk you to the summit where you can enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys of Franconia Notch State Park and the White Mountain National Forest. Foot trails lead from the observation platform to overlooks from which, on a clear day, you can see four states and the province of Québec. The current tramway, inaugurated in 1980, is the second to operate on this breathtaking spot. Its predecessor is said to have been the first aerial tram in North America, having made its first trip up to the 4,080-foot-high summit back in 1938. RV campsites are available. Camping is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Round-trip $17; $14 (ages 6-12). One-way trip $13; $10 (ages 6-12).
Hours: Daily 9-5, mid-May to mid-Oct. (weather permitting).
