Absecon Lighthouse is at jct. Pacific and Rhode Island aves. at 31 S. Rhode Island Ave. This restored 1857 lighthouse, the tallest beacon on the Jersey Shore and the third tallest in the country, still has its original Fresnel lens. Visitors can climb 228 steps to the top for a panorama of the Atlantic City skyline, nearby Brigantine and Absecon Inlet. The reconstructed Keeper's House contains a museum. Dogs on leashes are welcome in the museum. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Museum and exhibits free. Fee to climb to the top of the lighthouse $7; $5 (ages 65+); $4 (ages 4-12); free (military with ID).

Hours: Daily 10-5 (also Thurs. 5-8), July-Aug.; Thurs.-Mon. 11-4, rest of year. Last lighthouse access 30 minutes before closing. Closed Thanksgiving and 2 weeks for Christmas.
