AAA Editor Notes

Lucy the Elephant is at 9200 Atlantic Ave. Built in the shape of an elephant, this six-story wooden structure is complete with a canopied seat called a howdah. The 90-ton historic landmark was constructed in 1881 by real estate developer James V. Lafferty to draw prospective buyers to his holdings. It has served as a real estate office, a residence and a tavern. A climb up to the howdah is rewarded by scenic views.
