AAA Editor Notes
Poricy Park Conservancy nature center and farmhouse are w. of SR 35S on Oak Hill Rd., following signs; the fossil beds are on Middletown-Lincroft Rd., between Dwight Rd./Nutswamp Rd. and Oak Hill Rd. The conservancy's 250 acres preserve wildlife, native habitats, prehistoric fossil beds and a historic farmhouse.

Fossils approximately 72 million years old from the Cretaceous period of the Mesozoic era, mainly of shellfish, can be found in Poricy Brook; the best time to find fossils is in early spring. The nature center has displays of the different types of fossils found in the brook as well as live turtles and fish. Open during scheduled programs, the 1770 Murray farmhouse is typical of a middle-class lifestyle during the Colonial period.

Note: Only basic hand tools are permitted. Restrictions apply to the number of fossils that can be removed from the site; phone ahead for specific details.

Guided tours are available. Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
