AAA Editor Notes
Rutgers University comprises five campuses: the Busch and Livingston campuses, n. off SR 18; the College Avenue Campus downtown; and the Cook and Douglass campuses, s. off SR 18 and n.w. of US 1. Chartered as a Colonial college in 1766, the state university at New Brunswick has an enrollment of approximately 41,000 students. The first formal collegiate football game in the country was held here in 1869; Rutgers beat Princeton six goals to four. Old Queens, a three-story brownstone building that once housed all of the college's facilities, now serves as the president's office.
