The Newark Museum is at 49 Washington St. (at Central Ave.). The museum's 80 galleries exhibit collections of art representing ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome as well as Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Americas.

The Asian wing features an extensive collection of Tibetan art, including a Buddhist altar that the 14th Dalai Lama consecrated in 1990. American art includes Colonial-era pieces as well as contemporary works, including paintings by Mary Cassatt, Thomas Cole, Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, Joseph Stella and Henry Ossawa Tanner. Rocks, minerals, fossils, insects and shells are among the extensive collections in the museum's Natural Science Collection. The complex also includes the Alice and Leonard Dreyfuss Planetarium and a memorial garden.
