Downtown and artsy, this creatively renovated urban property is in a 1912 landmark building with rich architectural details. Rooms are not cookie-cutter but feature inviting industrial décor. One block from the Prudential Center and near many corporate offices, the young Thomas Alva Edison had a city-center lab nearby. At this Indigo, inspiration is taken from Edison, with an inventive tech-theme décor. Bathrooms are gritty loft style with painted concrete flooring. With striking, museum-quality light fixtures and a fair share of quirky modern design, this hotel makes for an alternative to the mainstream standard. Smoke free premises. 108 units. 12 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

Worst hotel experience ever. I arrived within the arrival window to find my room, along with multiple other reservations, had been resold and were no longer available. There was no manager on site and the one on call wasn't answering his phone. The hotel couldn't find us rooms at other hotels and claimed even if they could, they didn't have a way to pay for it. At one point in time, I was told, "Go blast us on social media. Do whatever you want. There's literally nothing I can do right now." I was left to try and find my own room, but there was nothing available within a reasonable drive...and there was no way I was going to go drive around Newark when multiple hotel employees were advising me not to go out alone in the dark. I ended up having a share a bed with a colleague (I barely knew I should add) who happened to walk into the lobby and offered to help. I was promised I'd have a room for the second night of my stay. Good thing I double checked early the next morning because someone had canceled my reservation for night two...which they claimed was me, but I had only called hotels to try and find a place to sleep. I never touched my reservation. The only positive thing is my entire stay was comped, including valet parking, but one way or another, I will never go back or recommend this hotel to anyone.
Pros: My stay and parking were comped - that's about it.
Cons: The staff, except for one lovely lady that was there in the morning, was unprofessional and poorly trained. Management is non-existent. Hotel boasts of being a boutique hotel, but it's really just a cheep veneer. I could barely open and close my bathroom door because it wasn't installed right and was digging away at the floor. There was a rubber bath mat in the shower covering up the shower floor finish coming off. It's very loud. I was woken up by sirens, traffic, and ringing bells throughout the night and early morning. All the personal safety warnings from staff reaffirmed Newark's reputation - definitely not an area I'll ever stay in again.
Pros: The bar the roof was a lot of fun. Train to the city was close enough to walk to.
Cons: Dont wear a nice watch in this neighborhood.
Family with Young Children
Pros: Modern look and feel
Cons: Newark just isn't the greatest city in America, but there was no trouble for me.

Pros: What I like most about this hotel is the location. It's right in the heart of Downtown Newark. Very accessible to Penn station which takes you to NYC. I also liked the staff that greeted and promptly checked me in upon arrival.
Cons: The only concern I had was the floor of the shower in my room. It was a lot of paint chip remnants floating around and on my feet as I dried off.
