New Jersey State Museum is at 205 W. State St., in the State House Historic District. Three floors of exhibits focus on archeology, fine arts, cultural history and natural science. Highlights include Native American artifacts, mastodon skeletons, a full-size model of a dinosaur and a mine replica with fluorescent minerals. Changing art exhibits as well as films, concerts and lectures are presented. The museum's planetarium offers changing programs emphasizing the solar system and the night sky. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Donations. Main museum building free. Fees are charged for special exhibits and programs. Planetarium show $7; $5 (ages 0-12).
Hours: Main museum building and auditorium galleries Tues.-Sun. 9-4:45. Planetarium shows are presented Sat.-Sun. on the hour noon-3. Closed state holidays.
