Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway is off I-25 exit 234 (Tramway Road), then 6 mi. e. to 30 Tramway Rd. N.E. The 2.7-mile tramway, one of the world's longest, takes passengers above the deep canyons and spectacular terrain of the western Sandia Mountains in the Cibola National Forest. A Forest Service visitor center is in the upper tram terminal. Restaurants operate at the base and summit.

Sandia Peak is a popular recreation spot. Skiers frequent the 10,378-foot peak from mid-December to mid-March. In summer 24 miles of trails are available for mountain biking. Bicycle rentals are available weekends and holidays, early July through Labor Day, and in October during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta.
