San Ildefonso Pueblo is at 74 Povi Kaa, 13 mi. s. of Española via SR 30/502. For the past century this Tewa village has been at the forefront of a Pueblo arts revival. It is best known as the home of Maria Martinez, celebrated potter and the creator of black-on-black pottery that is prized by collectors. Today family members and other potters continue the tradition she began. Shops in the main plaza display and sell her work, and a museum depicts pottery-making techniques.
