New York State Capitol, bounded by Washington Ave. and Swan, State and Eagle sts., was built in the late 1800s and houses the governor's office and the New York State Senate and Assembly. Carvings on the Million Dollar Staircase depict famous people in American history as well as friends and relatives of the sculptors. Guided tours are available.
Free. Reservations are required for guided tour on second Sat. of the month.
Hours: Guided 1-hour tours depart the information desk off Capital State Street Mon.-Fri. at 10, noon, 2 and 3 (also the second Sat. of the month at 11 and 1). Closed major holidays.
