AAA Inspector Notes
Inspector Pick (Value): Not only is the food here unique and delicious but its not priced out of this world. A real quality pick.
Locally sourced produce, rustic regional cooking and Brooklyn casual-cool décor come together to make for a uniquely satisfying dining experience in a fast-gentrifying old neighborhood by the waterfront. Homemade smoked mozzarella is the signature appetizer, arriving in a plume of aromatic vapors; heirloom tomatoes, also smoked, come with savory radicchio. House-made pastas, like the tortellini arso, are exceptional, as slightly charred flour perfectly complements a lemon-tinged ricotta filling. Along with using traditional smoking techniques, the kitchen also turns out wood-fired pizzas and thin, crispy bread accompanied by a creamy pesto sauce. Servers enthusiastically explain the Old World techniques employed by chef Albert Di Meglio, which originated long ago on a small island in the Bay of Naples. A well-priced, good selection of American and Italian wines pair well with the sometimes subtle, but sometimes deep, smoky flavors of the food.
