On lively Avenue U, away from the bustling waterfront in the foodie neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay, an eclectic blend of Kosher, Chinese and Central Asian food shops vie for attention. In this rich mosaic, a small Turkish café and bakery provides New York restaurants with the most splendid baklava imaginable. A wide selection of artistic cakes and deliciously fresh confections are served with traditional aromatic tea and notoriously strong coffee. Only a few tables are available. The highly memorable baklava is the reason to make this pilgrimage. It comes in several varieties, blending a crisp, almost pastry shell-like outer layer with an incredibly moist and succulent honey-filled interior.
