Vanderbilt Museum

Vanderbilt Museum is 1.5 mi. n. of SR 25A to 180 Little Neck Rd. Overlooking Northport Bay, the 43-acre estate of William K. Vanderbilt II contains a Spanish Revival-style mansion, a marine and natural history museum, a planetarium and gardens with water and architectural features. The house is filled with original furnishings, family memorabilia, decorative arts, firearms, ethnic objects and natural history specimens. A highlight is a 3,000-year-old mummy purchased in 1931. The Marine Museum has one of the largest privately owned collections of pre-Atomic-Age marine specimens in the world.
