Glenn H. Curtiss Museum, .5 mi. s. on SR 54, displays early aircraft, motorcycles and engines, many of which were developed and manufactured by Glenn H. Curtiss in his Hammondsport manufacturing plant.

A skilled mechanic, speed enthusiast and aviation pioneer, Curtiss won the title “Fastest Man on Earth” for a motorcycle speed record set in 1907; the next year he piloted the first documented public flight in the United States. After the U.S. Navy purchased its first seaplane—a Curtiss A-1 Triad—in 1911, Curtiss became known as the Father of Naval Aviation.

Museum galleries feature Curtiss family art objects, bicycles, boats, early automobiles and turn-of-the-20th-century furnishings and memorabilia.

Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
