John Jay Homestead State Historic Site, 400 Jay St. (SR 22), was the retirement home of the first chief justice of the United States and second governor of New York. The house has restored period rooms with family memorabilia and portraits by American artists. The grounds include landscape plantings and 19th- and 20th-century farm outbuildings.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.

Hours: Grounds daily dawn-dusk. Visitor Center Wed.-Sun. 12:30-4, May 1-Oct. 15. Guided house tours are offered on the hour Wed.-Sun. 1-4, May 1-Oct. 15; Thurs.-Sat. 1-3, rest of year. Closed major holidays. Allow 1 hour minimum.
