New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site, 1 mi. s. of I-84 on Temple Hill Rd./SR 300, is the site of the last winter encampment of Gen. George Washington's Continental Army. Costumed interpreters demonstrate 18th-century military life, including musket and artillery drills, woodworking and blacksmithing. A visitor center has exhibits about the Revolutionary War in the Hudson Highlands and on the cantonment.

Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
