The Frick Collection is at 1 E. 70th St. between Fifth and Madison aves. Housed in Henry Clay Frick's former residence built in 1913-14, the collection features the paintings, decorative art and furnishings owned by the industrialist and philanthropist. The Gilded Age mansion's refined ambience complements renowned pieces by Old Masters as well as key examples of European sculpture including small bronzes. Elegant spaces such as the Fragonard Room and The Living Hall are adorned by elaborate furnishings, intricate crown molding, rich draperies and other delightful accents.

The assortment of masterpieces includes works by Giovanni Bellini, Thomas Gainsborough, El Greco, Claude Monet, Johannes Vermeer and James McNeill Whistler. Also displayed are Limoges enamels, Oriental rugs and Chinese and Sèvres porcelains. A reference library adjacent to the museum is considered a major research facility relative to art history. Special exhibits and programs are held throughout the year.

Note: The museum is currently undergoing renovations, and is operating out of Frick Madison, 945 Madison Ave. The main building is scheduled to reopen in late 2023.

Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
