Lower East Side Tenement Museum, 103 Orchard St., between Delancey and Broome sts., recognizes the nation's urban, working-class immigrants through exhibits based on the lives of tenement residents. Some 7,000 people from 20 countries occupied apartments in the 97 Orchard St. building 1863-1935. Guided tours depart from the visitor center. Neighborhood walking tours also are offered. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$25; $20 (ages 65+ and students with ID). Ages 0-5 only permitted on the Meet Victoria tour. Purchasing tickets in advance is recommended. Parking: One hour free, at a lot on Broome St. between Norfolk and Suffolk streets, with validated museum ticket.
Hours: Visitor center open daily 10-6:30 (also Thurs. 6:30-8:30). Guided tours are given every 15 minutes. Last tour begins 90 minutes before closing (Thurs. last tour at 6:30). Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
