Museum of the City of New York, Fifth Ave. and 103rd St., educates the public about the city's heritage of diversity, opportunity and perpetual transformation. The New York at Its Core exhibit details the city’s 400-year history and anticipates its future challenges. Ongoing exhibitions include Activist New York, which tells the story of social activism from the 17th century to the present. Timescapes, a 28-minute documentary, traces the growth of the city from a settlement of a few hundred to its status as one of the world's great cities. Temporary exhibits and educational and entertainment programs also are offered.
