Strawberry Fields, between 71st and 74th sts. on the west side of Central Park, is a memorial to musician and songwriter John Lennon, a member of the legendary rock band The Beatles. The memorial is a 5.3-acre, teardrop-shaped section of Central Park which features a circular black-and-white mosaic inlaid with the word “Imagine,” the title of a Lennon song. Park benches, a wooded path and a meadow surround the mosaic. The area's landscaping includes oak-leaf hydrangeas, trilliums, jack-in-the-pulpits, daffodils, tulips, hyacinths and three dawn redwood trees. Strawberry Fields is located several yards away from Lennon's home at the Dakota Apartments, where he was killed in December 1980.
