The Bowery

The Bowery, extending from Chatham Sq. n. to E. 4th St., was once the city's liveliest district and later the habitat of the homeless, whose population continues to shrink as urban renewal creeps in. The area is now undergoing a period of revitalization; higher-end retailers are moving in and new boutique hotels and luxury apartment buildings have been built. The New Museum of Contemporary Art relocated to the Bowery in 2007. Chinatown also is located in the Bowery.
