AAA Inspector Notes
At this classic hotel, an exquisite renovation has re-created a Gilded Age atmosphere but with modern functionality. Rooms can vary widely in size, from grand to standard, but all are well appointed. The sprawling, ultra-luxurious rooftop Presidential Suite is spectacular, and decorated, as is much of the hotel, in an early American, Federalist style. With an elegant reception and dining area, as well as an area for support staff or a security contingent, the suite is among the best designed lodgings in New York for bona fide VIPs and their entourages. The hotel also has a number of splendid one-bedroom suites that are highly prized for their fine layout and comfort. This is one of the real gems of New York. Smoke free premises. 703 units, some two bedrooms. 14 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

Good rates with AAA but not a noticeable hotel and not the feeling of a 4.5 star hotel.
Pros: Rooms (king bed and double beds) larger than average, including bathrooms. Thermostat/air vent quieter and more efficient than many rooms I have used recently. Cleaning staff very friendly and eager to help.
Cons: Hotel location relatively convenient but address not best for sightseeing or circulating in Manhattan. Lobby staff polite but easily forgetful. Parking fee (Valet) rather outrageous ($75/24h). Common space aplenty but not particularly welcoming nor comfortable. Avoid rooms close to elevators that are meeting points/very loud. Not sure what "updated 2017" means since rooms and bathrooms already show signs of deterioration: bed platform worn off, multiple scratches, stains, and dents on walls, missing joints on shower door, etc. Satellite TV has bad days with several channel not available.
