AAA Inspector Notes
Inspector Pick (Eclectic/Unusual): It is Midtown Manhattan but might as well be Tokyo. Japanese owned and in spirit; experience what the upper crust of Japan will call New York luxury.
Understatement and refined Asian style come together in warm woods, soft lighting and tailored symmetry here. Service is personal and attentive. The upscale lounge has live jazz performances nightly. The Japanese-style mood of blissful serenity continues from the public spaces into the guest rooms, aided by noise canceling windows that completely mute the Midtown traffic noise – all the while offering a majestic Park Avenue view. Fabrics are soft to the touch and the furniture is of a thoughtful, high design that pleases the senses. 150 units. 18 stories, interior corridors. Accessibility (Call).

Very good impression. Location is excellent and so is the staff/service (hotel and restaurant). Convenient and somewhat "reasonable" valet parking option. Lobby/front desk rather on the smallish side and only 2 elevators (albeit fast and quiet).
Pros: Park Avenue address means quiet streets, yet easy access to all shopping/restaurant/entertainment. Appreciated the well-proportioned room and comfortable bathroom with Japanese-style toilet. Good selection of cable TV programs. Restaurant downstairs provides ascetic ambiance while delivering great food with excellent service. Room was upgraded to King size bed at check-in.
Cons: My floor (8th) displayed a sustained "smoky" smell. I wondered if this came from some incense fragrance (dispenser plugged near the elevators). However I concluded that the floor/hotel used to be smokers-friendly. This smell was stronger in the bedroom and the (aging) carpet showed many -typical- burns. My cleanliness rating accounts for this. Also the mattress was comfortable but definitely soft and VERY bouncy.

Pros: Clean room, friendly and accommodating staff, nice bar.
Cons: I wanted the room at 11:30, before usual check-in time and my room was ready when I arrived thanks to front desk staff memeber. I needed an extra 15 minutes to check out and the staff had no trouble re-programming my passkey without charge.
