There is more than excellent pizza at this warm and welcoming little place from Mario Batali and Joseph Bastianich near New York University. Start with selections from an extensive antipasti menu with various imported and local cheese, classic Italian cured meats, vegetables and a few fish dishes. The homemade pasta shows simplicity but bold flavors with such items as fusilli with garlic, escarole and sweet Italian sausage or traditional spaghetti carbonara with pancetta, egg and scallions.
