I love the natural setting and healthy food here. A calm oasis in busy midtown.

A proponent of sustainable and responsible farming, Norwegian restaurateur Morten Sohlberg has established a flagship eatery near Midtown at the Scandinavia House—The Nordic Center in America. By drawing on the resources of his Upstate New York farm for ingredients, the livestock, vegetables, greens and herbs truly taste fresh. Sohlberg's take on Swedish meatballs using local heritage pork and grass-fed beef are a revelation to those who are only accustomed to Ikea's variety. The signature salads, featuring 12 lettuces, local goat cheese and the 72-hour Aquavit-cured gravlaks, are standouts and have a notable taste difference. Enter through the gift shop of the Nordic Center and select seating around the large birch tree installed in the main dining room. At Christmas time a traditional Nordic menu is served and you can shop for delightful Scandinavian-made gifts.
