AAA Inspector Notes
During the warm days of spring and summer, there are few outdoor café scenes as vibrant as Stone Street's, a historical passageway in the backyard of the largest Wall Street firms. The captains of industry flood to this area to socialize over small plates and the beverage of their choice. It is a must-see part of New York on a balmy day after work. But even in dreary winter, this Scandinavian eatery excels. It's cozy, female-friendly and serves all of the classic Swedish favorites. Gravlax, herring, delicate meatballs and healthy salads are all menu standouts. Much of the greens and meats are farm-to-table, sourced from the owner's upstate New York farm, and the wine list has a nicely respectable selection of wines from around the world. The Smorgas Chef located in Midtown, near Grand Central Station, is more traditional with a slightly different menu, including a fabulous Swedish Christmas menu during the holidays. The downtown location, sadly, does not have this feature.
