Aquarium of Niagara, 701 Whirlpool St. at Pine Ave. (US 62), has more than 1,500 aquatic animals ranging from the Great Lakes to the coral reefs and is home to a large collection of Great Lakes fish. Visitors can see California sea lions, piranhas and more. Highlights include a colony of Peruvian penguins, a shark exhibit and an outdoor harbor seal pool. The aquarium is the site of the 81st “Whaling Wall” by marine life artist Wyland. Interactive animal programs and a Behind-the-Scenes Tour are available; reservations are required.

Hours: Daily 9-5. Sea lion show Sat.-Sun. at 10:30, 12:30, 2:30 and 4. Penguins and seals are fed daily; sharks are fed at 11 on alternate days. Last admission 30 minutes before closing. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
