The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, 180 Thompson St., preserves one of three local factories that produced carousels and band organs. Exhibits detail the process of hand-carving the various carousel animals and other objects. Of special note is a restored and working 1916 carousel. A 1940s children's carousel and activities also are available.

AAA Members pay $6.00 instead of $7.00 for adults, $3.00 instead of $3.50 for children -- this is $1 savings! Programs include: Woodcarving classes at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, classes for young people, numerous family events, and guided tours for groups of all ages. The museum exhibits the history and growth of the Herschell Companies, demonstrates carving, horse restoration and band organ roll production, and operates two antique carousels. Special programs for young people include a Youth Volunteer Program which encourages youngsters ages 12 to 18 to experience the positive aspects of volunteering, and a Neighborhood Partners Program for local elementary school children which provides special free visits to the museum.
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. noon-4, mid-June through Labor Day week; Wed.-Sun. noon-4, Apr. 1 to mid-June and week after Labor Day-Dec. 30. Closed Jan. 1, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and Dec. 31.
