Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum is at 2 E. 7th St. The museum preserves the stories of 982 European Holocaust refugees who were sheltered at Fort Ontario during World War II by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Exhibits show how they lived, interacted with the community during an 18-month stay, and relocated after the war. This was the only camp in the United States established for Holocaust survivors.
