Sands Point Preserve, 6 mi. n. of I-495 exit 36 on Searingtown Rd./Port Washington Blvd., was the early 20th-century estate of Howard Gould, and later of Daniel and Florence Guggenheim, with a portion belonging to Harry F. Guggenheim. The grounds include a 216-acre forest, beachfront and green open space, two castlelike structures built by Gould and a manor house built in 1923 by Harry F. Guggenheim. The grounds include six marked nature trails. Time: Allow 2 hours, 30 minutes minimum.
$10 (per private vehicle); $2 (per person arriving by other means).
Hours: Grounds open daily 8-7, Memorial Day-Labor Day; 8-6, Apr. 2-day before Memorial Day and day after Labor Day-Nov. 1; 8-5, rest of year.
