Long Island National Wildlife Refuge Complex, .5 mi. s. on Smith Rd. off Montauk Hwy., has its headquarters in Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge. Wertheim offers boating, crabbing, fishing and a nature trail. Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge is on Noyack Road. Target Rock National Wildlife Refuge, 4.5 miles north on W. Neck Road off SR 25A in Huntington village, then 3 miles east on Lloyd Harbor Road, has walking trails.
Target Rock and Morton refuges $4 (per private vehicle); $2 (per person on bicycles or on foot); free (ages 62+). Wertheim free.
Hours: Wertheim grounds open daily dawn-dusk. Wertheim visitor center open Mon.-Sat. 8-4. Morton and Target Rock refuges open daily 30 minutes before dawn-30 minutes before dusk.
