Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden, Clove Rd. exit off I-278, then 3 mi. n. to 1000 Richmond Terr., was founded in 1801 as the nation's first maritime hospital and home for retired sailors. Restored buildings include Main Hall, with its Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, and Music Hall, a concert venue. The 83-acre botanical garden includes formal displays of annuals, a variety of themed gardens, the New York Chinese Scholar’s Garden, a formal maze garden, sculpture and fountains. Food is available.
