Great world class Italian food, wonderful service and a great wine list at a fair price. This wonderful Staten Island eatery has hit the trifecta!
AAA Inspector Notes
Chef Mario Gentile triumphantly returned to Staten Island in 2015 after stints running kitchens across the ocean in Rome and across the harbor in Manhattan. Low-key compared to the more amped-up local eateries of the burg, Mario's serves food that's more sophisticated and is among the very best Italian cuisine to be found in the outer boroughs. Sauces are flavorful but restrained and the risotto is robust and satisfying. Osso buco, creative pastas and grilled branzino fillet are exceptional. There is an indoor covered parking lot, which is convenient as the modern restaurant is on a busy commercial stretch just south of the affluent enclave of Todt Hill. A wine list that pairs well with the variety of meats and fish also provides good value and variety. Service is amiable, well-experienced and can ably guide a diner through a fine meal in a relaxed setting.
