Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site

Hawthorne Cottage National Historic Site, off Hwy. 70 at the corner of Irishtown Rd., was the home of Capt. Robert A. Bartlett, who commanded Adm. Robert Peary's ship, The Roosevelt, during the first expedition to the North Pole in 1909. The cottage contains period furnishings and photographs from Bartlett's various journeys.
