AAA Editor Notes
The Rooms is at 9 Bonaventure Ave. A museum, art gallery and archives make up this attraction dedicated to the history of the province. Along with the permanent collection, temporary and traveling exhibits are featured.

One of the museum exhibits is dedicated to the province's early landscape and its human and animal inhabitants; another exhibit explores the history and culture of the people of Newfoundland. Interpretive panels describe Fort Townsend, the original structure on this site. This 18th-century British fort protected Britain's fishing interests. The exhibit also recognizes the importance of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, a group that has been a part of the site since 1870.

The art gallery consists of more than 7,000 works, most of which are contemporary pieces by Newfoundland and Labrador artists. Canadian and international artists are represented as well. The archives consists of such topics as architecture, cartography, government and sports and can be researched through a variety of mediums, including manuscripts, film and still images.

Food is available. Time: Allow 2 hours minimum.
