Jockey Hollow is 5 mi. s.w. of Morristown at jct. Jockey Hollow and Tempe Wick rds. The hollow contains most of the sites occupied by the Continental Army 1779-80. That “Hard Winter” proved to be one of the harshest of the 18th century. The army stripped the surrounding woods to build more than 1,000 huts, each housing 12 men. Five of these soldier huts have been re-created. The 1,200-acre area is also a wildlife sanctuary with several hiking trails. A visitor center offers displays and DVD presentations.
