Smith-McDowell House Museum is at 283 Victoria Rd., on the A-B Tech campus. Built circa 1840 by an affluent businessman, the three-level house contains rooms furnished in various 19th-century styles that include an 1850s bedroom, an 1860s sitting room and an 1880s parlor. Antique furniture, photographs, china and cookware are among the items displayed, and a permanent exhibit, The House, the People and the Land, follows three 19th-century families associated with the house. Changing exhibits also are offered. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$9; $5 (ages 8-18 and college students with ID).
Hours: Wed.-Sat. 10-4, Sun. noon-4. Last tour begins 1 hour before closing. Closed Jan. 1, Easter, July 4, Thanksgiving, Dec. 24-26 and Dec. 31. Phone ahead to confirm schedule.
